A CUSTOM PAPER SCULPTURE ADDS DEPTH AND INTEREST

Of the many elements that one has to work with in any given environment, the humble medium of paper is often left off the list. Well, not if you have the talents of one of my colleagues Ashley Gierke. She, rather insightfully, treats this simple material with more reverence than usual.

In a recent bathroom collaboration (lucky me!), Ashley created a custom paper sculpture which acted as the centerpiece to a fresh, unique update to this quaint powder bathroom.

The goal was to create something with high visual impact and texture. For her, the heart of her process lies in the intuition of aiming for a rough idea of how something might turn out, all the while allowing it to evolve very naturally. This worked beautifully since our mutual goal was something organic in nature; something that flows.

Well, I think it turned out splendidly – a chic color variation in a very expressive composition; allowing the viewer to find in it whatever shape or story they wish. Wonder what else one can see in it….beauty, naturally. Thank you Ashley!
