Project Feature: Light & Lovely Family Home
All hands on deck for this one! With an entryway, a dining room, a kitchen, and a living area to tackle, our days on this project were filled with all that comes with creating many cohesive spaces.
A home needs to read as one and a home needs to translate into the personalities of its owner – those are the two tenants of Turnstyle’s philosophy, so we got to have fun once again on this one. For a jovial young family, the house didn’t reflect that same sentiment. And if you can imagine, the homeowners had kind of given up and were ready to move out, before we agreed we could make it great. So with a mission to have them fall back in love with the home they originally selected.
Given its openness, one bold color set the tone in the living room. Conceived to make it welcoming; silver pillows, a lamb skin throw, and cheeky mirrors made personalized with the words “Mama” and “baby girls” let everyone know this is a place to get comfortable in and enjoy. The living area was inspired by the entryway, which was outfitted with a customized built in to accommodate a place for everything, and a spot for visitors to feel they could set something down.
In the dining room we brought out all the color that should come with a great buoyant big dinner. Mixed navy and white woven chairs, and a grey and white kid-friendly bench, say come and stay and linger! We mixed and matched plenty. Artwork that keeps up the happy, directionalizes the space and allows the pink-rimmed dishware to sing. Flowing into it directly, we remodeled the kitchen from scratch adding a classic palette that felt very young and modern-day. Pristine abalone penny tiles glimmer every bit of brightness provided by the now newly installed big windows which look into the garden. Clean quartz surfaces make function an ease, and white cabinetry keeps everything feeling fresh, clean and simple.
Dark walls finish out the family room. Expressly outfitted with this sumptuous color, this is the space where you want to curl up with a movie after a long summer day. The light richly patterned carpet ground the space, keeping these usually informal rooms more sophisticated; certainly something echoed with these stunning black and white upholstered chairs. Who wants to come over?! I do…
