Design Trends: What’s New On The Horizon In Home Decor —
With each year, there are new innovations, new textures, materials and advances of all sorts in how we can facilitate our lives. Yet, with the new, also often comes the resurgence of older things, hence styles coming back into rotation. We have four top home trends that we see either coming, or are just renewed on the horizon. Here they are:
BLACK STAINLESS STEEL
A beauty, even if simply by name, this brand new trend in kitchen and bath really resonates with most, because it immediately implies something chic, not to mention breathtakingly clean and modern. You’ll find black stainless on everything from plumbing fixtures to appliances and tile, and even though it is in such a definitive color, its sharpness exudes good taste in any environment. Feel free to use it as an accent, as a pairing to another great metal or certainly in a cohesive grouping. Bound to change depending on the light around it and certainly great to the touch, this metal is surely to stay a hit for a long time to come.
TECHNICOLOR
Life in color is simply better. With this look in your home, you are sure to make your mark; with the volume on high. Strong colors in their minimalist form are more current these days, and neon prescribes directly to this trend. Chartreuse, Schiaparelli’s shocking pink, and electric blue all find play in lines, waves and color blocking. Great in Lucite or fun in groupings of pieces, Technicolor accenting tells anyone you are up on, and in tune with, true contemporary design.
GRANDMOTHER CHIC
Because it all does come back around, the softness and comfort of Granny Chic is seeing coming around again. With childhood nostalgia at its core, this style is meant for combing through and revitalizing all of those things you loved from your grandmother’s home, or surely those things that remind you of your childhood days. “Soft”, “a little worn” and “hand-made” are big contributors to this trend and our favorite player: pattern finds itself in its smallest scale. Go with pinks, go with blooms and go with those pieces that are a wee bit twee and you’ve got yourself something that’s comfortable, but also very fresh again as we head into the new year.
MARBLIZING
Even though in Turnstyle’s book, this one never really ever goes away, you’ll find all things marbleized completely in style these days. Whether paper, fabric or changing in whatever scale, this home décor style seeks to take an otherwise hard and weighty material and transpose it onto all sorts of items. Shower curtains, wallcoverings, book covers and clocks, all combine with more easily accessible versions of the real thing, in cabinet hardware and table setting chargers. We love this classic whatever format, and love that it’s finding its place in all sorts of real and imaginary ways.
