Hampshire
This part of the English coast is now also known as the New Forest area, full of lagoons, salt-marshes and tidal mudflats — we loved exploring on long walks in the chillier weather. It is a beautiful combination of rugged seaside, forests, and horse country. Reading, sleeping, and eating were our agenda and Hampshire proved the perfect spot.
See.
Locals have huts on the beach, each one decorated differently in the inside, which is very special and quaint. A perfect spot to grill out and relax by the sea during the day.
We loved Barton on Sea, Lymington, and New Milton which has the incredible Relais & Chateaux Chewton Glen Hotel.
Eat. Drink.
We ate a beautiful garden fresh meal at The Kitchen (also a training school for chefs) located in the Chewton Glen.
Other favorite dinner places included The Noisy Lobster, Cliff House, and the Ship Inn — which was a fun and laidback pub at the harbor.
Shop.
Lots of fun local finds…my favorite discovery was the gorgeously handcrafted hats by Sara Tiara.
HIGHLIGHT
The air smells wonderfully of fresh flowers and sea salt, given the fantastic amount of rain this area gets in a year — all is verdant and delicious.
I highly recommend giving yourself a few days to adjust to a new timezone and overcome jetlag. At the start of your trip, avoid the crowds and simply focus on winding down and re-syncing with your travel companions.
